That's a better question for Doug than me. Since he's now in C2, perhaps he'll drive by this thread.

I'll throw a guess out there, though: To prevent advantageous spins. Let's say your ACC is 40 and your SS is 100. You're coming to a 40 mph corner at 60 and you have some skill to use. By going to the chance table, you save wear and can't be hurt by a spin if you come out at 100.

Anyway... that's just a guess.

this way the ridiculous start speed of say 100 + can only be used once in the race. they are some tracks that if you could use crazy start speed after spin outs,you could auto spin and be in better shape than if you went through corner driving.
