If you have some links or find anything neat about the game, please post them.

Rando posted a couple of things in the Spa race that are worthy of a more prominent place:

The WBC page, showing champions of years past.

Some photos of the finals at PrezCon were sent to me by Dave Ingraham at John's request (thanks to both Dave & John). Now if John could just elucidate us who is driving that red car.

Those most definitely do NOT look like open-wheel race cars!

It is reported that the pictures represent the start/middle/finish of the race, in order.

This link is to a photo (no download allowed) from the most recent PrezCon. It looks like Speed Circuit. John, can you verify and if so, what's the track. Are you in the pic?

Doug has posted some info regards the schedule at the WBC's. It's not on the WBC website yet but I assume they only publish when the whole schedule is set.

There will be three qualifying rounds (I assume you race all three?) and one finals race. Chris Long, a current RFR driver in C1, will be running the show in Lancaster.

From Doug's website:

Thursday Q1:
Track 1: Hockenheimring
Track 2: Monza
Track 3: Shanghai

Friday Q2:
Track 1: Albert Park
Track 2: Monaco
Track 3: Valencia Street Circuit

Saturday Q3:
Track 1: Circuit of the Americas
Track 2: Buddh
Track 3: Suzuka

Sunday Finals:
Marina Bay

I really hope Doug's publication of Championship Formula Racing is the impetus for more interest in the hobby. The PBEM games are great but they do require a time commitment from a dedicated RM. I think the next step would be an automated judge - now that would be awesome! I don't suppose Doug is a programmer?

From Chris:

There are three qualifying heats over the course of three days at the WBC. Each heat is split into two (or occasionally three) groups for racing. You do not need to compete in each heat to qualify for the Finals, but obviously competing more often gives you more opportunities for success.

The final track will race with 12 drivers, determined by your performance in the qualifying heats. If you win a race, you're in. Typically all the 2nd place finishers will make it into the finals as well, but depending on how many races we have during the qualifying heats that is not guarenteed. Historically, at least one or two 3rd place finishers typically get in as well (mostly because of repeat top finishes) but this is even less certain.

So basically you can show up for only one qualifying heat, win, and you're in. But if you don't win your first race out, you might want to race again for better chance at qualifying.

We've been included in Doug's CFR rankings this year. Cool!

Who is that guy who came out of nowhere to crack the top 20?

no i am not in picture at prezcon. i think dave sent pictures of the i st flight of cars, i was in the back the whole time. there were 12+ cars and i never got off the snide. there were a lot of experienced players at prezcon. prezcon is more laid back than w.b.c.,but the racing is good and speed circuit is gaining some ground .prezcon has a lot to offer if your into racing games. other than hold em tourney i only play racing games(not sure if circus maxiums counts). next i am returning moto grand prix a fun reverse dice motorcycling racing game.

the 3 rd heat at the w.b.c. always seems to be a little easier(in theory because it can still be hard) to qualify. there are usually less players, and some of the players who finished 1 st or 2 nd in an earlier heat do not race again.of course there are a few players, myself included, who race every heat regardless.( i do not drive 600+ miles not to play sct).
if you have not qualified ,it is nice to have a friend or 2 also in the race.it seems to be getting harder to qualify(for me at least) than in the past, because the quality of players is very good.
i love playing on line, but playing live with 12 is even better

Working on it - I'd call it a 50/50 proposition at this point.
