Man, I really blew that early lead I had in our division. With only six games left, the East belongs to anybody...

Sluggers continue their late season run...tied for the division lead with a show-down with the Pile Drivers...Cows still have a chance but need a sweep.

Yep, I need a sweep and you need to lose to the Pile Drivers, two games to one.

Even if you don't make the playoffs, that was quite a comeback on the season, Freeman.

Well, neither one of one us made the play-offs but considering that a lot of the owners seemed to be experts, not too bad of a showing by either one of us.

So, here's my overall take:

Watching the games unfold was almost always entertaining. For those unfamiliar: Each night, three games are simulated against an opponent. You can set it up so that results are hidden, allowing you to watch each game, batter by batter, at a speed you choose without knowing the outcome. Best part of the game, by far. Unfortunately, the games would appear between 11 p.m. and midnight Eastern - this caused me to stay up way too often and lose sleep. Awful timing!

What I did not like was the lack of ability to change your team much. Because of the rather steep 20% salary hit when you drop a player, you can really only work at the margins. You can change line-ups and fiddle with settings but I didn't find myself doing too much of that except for injury situations.

At this point, the latter outweighs the former and I don't see myself spending $20 per league. I still have my 2nd token left so if you set up another league, Freeman, of course I'm in. It's engaging entertainment but the price is way too steep considering the lack of options once the season gets going.

You know, I did not take advantage of the replay function too much--I did not find the graphics that great. I don't think there has been an improvement on Earl Weaver in combining graphics with a realistic simulation (as opposed to arcade baseball games). If I were actively involved in game management and the results unfolded in real-time then that would be fun for me. But that is a personal taste kind of thing--no right or wrong answer here (and probably my prior experience with Earl Weaver biased me against what Stratomatic does)
I think that the 20 percent penalty should be done away with. Let owners revamp their team as much as they want to--that will keep owners interested.
I still have a game paid for and I could do it one more time. Should I make it a live draft again?

I've got nothing to compare to so the replay was pretty cool from my perspective. I would much rather be involved with in-game management, like you get in the board game. In fact, I just played a game with my nephew a few weeks ago - great simulation.

I think the live draft was fine and could do one again with the 2013 set. Schedule it when you like but perhaps sometime in August would be best? Also, see if there is a setting to lower the drop penalty.

If we're going to select ballparks, make sure it's in the league description! I'm ok with any old ballpark, though.

Let me know when you have it set and I'll send out some invites.

New league set for August 16. There are three options on drop penalty: (1) 20 percent, (2) 10 percent, and (3) 5 percent through first 40 games, 10 percent from 41-80, and 20 percent after that. I chose the last one , but let me know if you think 10 percent option would be better.

30 second rounds? Is that what we did last time - that seems REALLY fast!

This time around I got more offense:

Vs LHP .293. .362. .484
Vs RHP. .293 .361 .495

More on- base and power against righties (.288 .338 .477 last time); my numbers against lefties were probably slightly better last time (.308 .361 .477). But the offense last time vastly under-performed. Most of the guys I got this time held up well in the last iteration. The first four guys in my line- up against righties (A Ramirez , Carpenter, Trout and Harper)have an average on-base of .400 against RHP.

And pitching (darvish, latos, wacha, price, ohlendorff) is not bad but not exceptional in a 12 team league...relief is mediocre and defense is not good. I need to score a lot of runs. So we'll see.

Feeling OK about my team. The AI chose the core (Cano, Pence, Seager, Gomez) and I was pretty happy with that as I like competent defenders. I made some changes in the pitching staff and at the margins of the offense. I think the bottom half of my line-up will be hard pressed to score runs so those top guys really need to have good years. The rotation is suspect but if I can get to my pen and be close I've got a good chance to win games.

I'm also using Fenway to suppress left-handed power. That does hurt Cano but since my entire rotation consists of righties, it seemed a good gamble.

Lost 2 out of 3. I did use the replay function--it was kind of fun ( no graphics) but kind of suspenseful as I watched my team choke...

I lost 2 of 3 as well. In the rubber match the difference was a 2-run homer by Adrian Gonzalez on a 'ball-park' homerun. Fenway only gave him (a leftie) a 10% chance on that outcome. Though the dice did not roll in my favor, I'll take those odds every day of the week.

Yes, graphics would be a nice addition but I don't think SOM makes enhancements very often.
