Post any questions you have about wings here. I will compile them into a single post (the second post of this thread) for ease of reading.

Wings

Wings, or airplane units, are built, moved and destroyed in the same manner as armies and fleets, with the following exceptions:

Wings may fly over land, water, the north and south poles, and over impassable areas such as the Himalayas and the Caspian Sea.

Wings may attack and support attacks but they may not take "control" of a supply center.

Should a wing unit occupy another's center that center is considered to be "bombarded". While ownership does not pass, the controlling power loses unit support a center provides until the wing unit leaves (basically it becomes "neutral" until the wing leaves then reverts back to the owners control). If a capital city is bombarded, the UN voting rights are not affected by the bobardment, only support to other units is temporarily lost.

Wings may airlift armies or nukes. This is similar to a fleet's convoy order.

1. What good is a wing?!

To be perfectly honest, not a lot. Expect 90-95% of the units on the board to be armies, fleets or nukes. However, it does serve a purpose. Wings are useful in navigating terrain that includes both water and land. It is especially useful in navigating around (or through) impassable regions. For example, if you plant a wing in the middle of the Himalayas and your enemy doesn't have a wing, you are now able to support all your surrounding units or even airlift them right over the Himalayas without any chance of having that support/airlift get cut. Historically, good players have used wings to very quickly attack their enemies because of this ability.
