After years and years of waiting for this Bronx band to make it to my city, Black 47 will finally play for us in St. Louis a week from today.

If you're not familiar with their music, you may want to check them out on youtube.....

Larry Kirwan is the brains behind the outfit. Also an author and playwright,,

A fine show for the record. I wish more folks would have turned out for it. It was like having a private concert with 250 close friends. No one stood which was odd. I've never been to a Black 47 concert where folks remained seated.

Just saw Larry Kirwan of Black 47 in Springfield Illinois of all places. His play "Hard Times" is running in NYC at the moment and getting decent reviews (I think it's playing at THE CELL).

Anyway, Larry was invited to the Lincoln Museum in Springfield to narrate the story of American song writer Stephen Foster from his play adding Foster's songs via Larry's interpretations. The play covers Foster's time in Five Points in the Bowery during the outbreak of the Civil War. Absolutely fascinating!

So the next time you get to NYC, look for Hard Times. It should run for the entire summer and most of next year.
