No retreats, no annihilations, not much direct conflict. Some passive aggression for sure, but no aggressive aggression. Maybe you're all finally learning to get along, and that seven player DIAS is in your future after all. But we can't have 8 nation DIAS's so someone's going to have to take Greece eventually.

If I screwed up, let me know.

Perhaps, George, you are thinking of your own game? We have Russia down 2, Austria down 1, all based on attacks. Looks to me like direct action. Of course, we don't have world chaos. These things must be done delicately....

Heh, yes, delicate, subtle, even elegant, perhaps? A slip into an open center here, a denial of another center there. It's almost like a ballet. What is this, the ladies table? Where's the 4 on 5 attack with a beleaguered garrison? My prediction was for a 7 player DIAS and I'm sticking with it. Sure you have your differences, but I'm sure you'll all talk about your feelings and work it out.

George, I think your misunderstanding may result from relying upon your own Diplomatic expertise. Would that be the battle tactics seen in the historical reenactments by the Batley Townswomens' Guild? I realize that we are already at the end of the second game year; nevertheless, there might be a lot more behind-the-scenes discussions going on than you realize. And that's why this game is called Diplomacy and not Risk!

So, we'll let the kids dispense with planning and indulge in simple gang warfare. I think the players on this board are a bit more sophisticated and appreciate the mind-game aspects. We will create alliances, test the waters, put out the feints and red herrings, work up backup plans and ask for assurances once again before we roll the dice, forget what we promised, and devolve into maniacs.

Yes, indeed, we clearly have the ladies board. "No, that army in Silesia doesn't make your Munich look fat!"
