The answers to each question are direct quotes from members or proponents of 4 prominent schools of thought. They are the Austrian, Chicago, New York, and Socialist Schools.

Most of these questions are not based on original research, but I can find you the references for any of the answers if you ask.

The options are in depth. Read carefully.

You are 36% Statist
Slightly anti-state. You have some statist tendencies, but deep down inside you hate the state. You probably have some religio-patriotic tendencies that keep you with tose colored glasses about your government

First off, I don't hate the state. I just accept is as a necessary evil. People are inherently selfish and need to be protected from each other. I tend towards the James Madison position
Federalist Papers wrote:If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.

Further, I don't think I have Tose colored glasses. Rather I am just a realist. I recognize that oft times gov't is screamingly inefficient at some things. And in other things it is more efficient then the private sector.

I also had some problems with this test. More often then not, I felt that a combination of two or more choices was the correct answer. For example on Q17 - Who serves society best? I was completely in agreement with answer 2 until the last got to the last two sentence because I disagree with those characterizations of politician. I ended up with answer 4 because I think some politician/entrepreneurs can be good and some can be bad.

Another one was Q14. I liked A2 until the very last sentence (Competitions needs rigorous enforcement) and I hated A4 until the last two sentences (starting with the Adam Smith quote). I ended up picking A4 because of the Adam Smith quote and the concepts of courts and defense work best a monopolies. However, my dream answer would probably be a combination of the A2 & A4, i.e.
The market tends to generate monopolies of varying sizes and types. Business should not be permitted to exercise monopoly power in pricing or innovation. Geographic monopolies may not be as important as they once were due to advances in transportation technology. What we face today are a variety of technologically driven monopolies, such as the example of Microsoft shows. What is left for regulators to do? As Adam Smith said, they should prevent business conspiracy, blatantly predatory behavior, and otherwise assure a level playing field leading toward genuine competition. Finally, some goods lend themselves to being best provided by monopolies, e.g. courts and defense.

Interesting. thanks for the feedback. I really just threw it together, and I'm going to update it.

Bravo on being only 36% statist!! You're 67% anti-state :)

As for the answers, there will be some crossovers, that's why the answers are in-depth. But they are actual quotes from specific schools of thought. Austrians and Chicago have some crossover. Chicago and Keynesian have some crossover. But the more in-depth answer is intended to make you choose the more accurate one.

I'm also looking to find out if any topics are missed, but avoiding specific issues

You are 13% Statist
You are an anti-statist, possibly an extremist. You might belong in Guantanamo Bay. Do you even vote?

That makes sense to me... (And yes I vote, EVERY time)

While I know you meant this in jest, it proves the point I was trying to make. There needs to be something in between.

The problem is that I don't know if I necessarily picked the more accurate answer as much as I picked the least inaccurate answer if that makes sense.

Reminds me of a sequence from the 3 Stooges. "I would like this Henna colored." "Henna color at all?" "No, Henna. It's a brown-reddish." "I've never had a brown-reddish before, but I'm sure it tastes great!"

Not really. I do think the quiz needs updating, and the format isn't perfect, but it's the best I could find. I would rather it say you are XX% Anti-Statist if it's under 50% and XX% Statist if over 50%.

I don't see how this changes anything, though. It's like saying, "A is more conservative than B".

Well if you can identify any school of thought that ought to be included, I can certainly add that. The problem is, if you're a hybrid, and there are no other distinct schools of thought to add:
1. that's your own issue, and you have to just go with the most accurate, or
2. most hybrid positions are weak when it comes to defending those positions.

Ultimately, if you only had a problem with 2 or 3 out of the 15 or so questions, I think that's a good rate.

Ha! That could also be tongue-in-cheek. I'm 33. I grew up watching the stooges and marx brothers. Plus, the fact that Larry went to my high school was always a bonus. He was my favorite!

Moe: Get me the vice!
Larry: Vice? I have no vice. I am as pure as the driven snow...
Moe: *smack*

Why do you think that, Guapo? Do you imagine me as a Statist?

You don't know me very well if you think that.

Perhaps it is similar to this analogy. You are driving. Anyone passing you is a crazy, unsafe driver. Anyone you have to pass drives like Granny. Only you are at the perfect speed.

Good analogy, Brad.

If you set up a quiz to give you the answer you want (that the perfect non-statist agrees with Austrian economic theory and that those who may agree to other economic theories are more statist), then voila! you'll get it.

I got 67%. Which I think is either very low or very high compared to what some may think I should get.

Yea, I got around the same. Pay no heed to the anti-statists Danivon. There'll always be an England.

You are 68% Statist

You're a total statist. You probably agree with this assessment, and don't think statism is bad. I hope you die of the galloping crotch rot. Stay away from my family.

I'm studying Political Science with a focus in Public Policy. The Economics Department is almost entirely anti-statist while the Political Science Department is pro-statist. It is an interesting battle to watch. (We'll win in the end. Red tape holds the nation together.)
