Builds are in:

Only Brent & Stephen with identical builds. All others unique.

Lots of variety which bodes well for a competitive race. Muscly cars, wimpy cars, start speeds all over the place, and tires from 18 to 24. the least variation is in skill.

Here's the grid:

1. Joe (I darkened the car to differentiate from Russ)
2. Kevin
3. Stephen
4. Russ
5. Brent
6. Renaud
7. Rando
8. Mike
9. Doug (I hope the trim on the Renault is enough to differentiate from Kevin)

T1.png
T1: Seven of nine cars push the start and all succeed.

T2.png
T2: IIRC, Kevin pushed to 180 for initiative before late-braking to 160. Mike also pushes unnecessarily (I have no idea why I did that).

T3.png
T3: Kevin plots 120, late brakes again, and blocks the line. Stephen, at 120 and a bonus, careens around Toyota and dives into Aquarium for the outright lead. With four wear and his big chip on the chance table, he rolls an 11. Spin!

T4.png
T4: Toyota continues to take its toll on the tires. Russ late brakes and burns 2 wear in the very slow Aquarium turn.

T5.png
T5: Stephen pushes to 100 and continues to spend wear like its going out of style. Mike spends the first of his huge stack.

T6.png
T6: A relatively quiet turn with the only wear spent by some back-markers to join the chase pack.

T7.png
T7: Joe and Russ spend big in Tecate. I have no idea why there's a wear chip on the board for Renaud.

T8.png
T8: Kevin and Stephen are cleared for East Seaside. Tecate takes out more tires, two from Brent.

T9.png
T9: Almost everyone else is cleared for East Seaside with Brent and Rando dropping wear. Mike is lallygagging.

T10.png
T10: Kevin dives into Firestone with Stephen on his heels. A three-wide sets up behind them. The crowd roars as Rando drops the hammer.

T11.png
T11: Stephen & Rando manage brake issues. Indy Left & Firestone ring up some more tires.

T12.png
T12: Kevin, Stephen, & Russ are able to clear Le Gasomet (hairpin to right) on the racing line. Two tires apiece, please. Renaud has to hit the brakes.

T13.png
T13: The leaders break-away. The hairpin (and Brent's 40) causes frustration in the chase pack.

T14.png
T14: Joe and Brent push their engines. Everyone else clears Le Gasomet.

T15.png
T15: The leaders get settled in for the grind ahead. Doug and Rando make use of their high performance engines.

Wear count at the start of Lap 2

(clockwise from Mike)
Mike 22
Kevin 10
Stephen 13
Rando 10
Joe 9
Renaud 13
Brent 16
Doug 19
Russ 5

Note: These counts were prior to Mike & Doug going through the hairpin.

T16.png
T16: Kevin punishes his brakes once too often.

T17.png
T17: Russ challenges Kevin but will he have any tires left for the final lap? Rando & Mike push to 180 for position. Rando damages his engine and to add insult to injury still has to late brake.

T18.png
T18: Russ grabs the lead. Some over-braking in the back.

T19.png
T19: Only the back markers burning wear.

T20.png
T20: More battling in the back.

T21.png
T21: Russ & Kevin are cleared for Seaside. Brent and Mike drop wear in Tecate.

T22.png
T22: Four more cars are onto Seaside.

T23.png
T23: Russ is into Firestone. Mike drops a 180. Rando is keeping his powder dry in the back.

T24.png
Alas, Kevin's brakes give out and his car retires from the track.

T26.png
T26: Brent noses his way into 2nd place but not for long.

T27.png
T27: Russ has a sizable lead but is out of wear. Joe and Doug clear Le Gasomet while Renaud gets hung up.

Wear count at the start of Lap 3

(clockwise from Mike)
Mike 9
Stephen 8
Rando 9
Joe 5
Renaud 5
Brent 5
Doug 8
Russ 0

Note: These counts were prior to Rando going through the hairpin.

T28.png
T28: All spread out on Shoreline Drive.

T29.png
T29: A clear board. Mike & Stephen hunt down Russ.

T30.png
T30: Russ puts his last two skill chips on a chance roll and survives to tell the tale! Renaud damages his engine on a top speed test.

T31.png
T31: Doug does a little bit of extra braking to save wear.

T32.png
T32: Quite a turn here. Russ goes to the dice cup again but, with no skill left, his car goes round and round. After Mike goes outer rail, Stephen, having plotted 100, has some decisions. He late brakes to 80 and pulls off a forced pass on Russ who cannot block (Mike already stated in no uncertain terms that he would block any such attempt). Stephen has the lead!

T33.png
T33: ... and Mike snaps it away.

T34.png
T34: Mike spends two in Tecate for the outright lead. Russ hangs Brent in the same corner.

T35.png
T35: Stephen opts to trade wear for a slip position on Mike.

T36.png
T36: Stephen's gambit fails with a '10' on his engine push. Brent & Joe pressure Russ. Doug is cleared for take-off.
