Memorial Day weekend.

More info here: http://www.dixiecon.com/

Housing is cheap. Foreign travelers stay free.

There will be several folks from Europe, Australia, and Canada at the event. Many are arriving on Thursday before the Diplomacy starts. Dixie has a long history of other games being played, notably Here I Stand. But, almost any game has a shot at being played.

I seriously doubt it, but I am at least intrigued and WANT to go. I have so darned much other traveling going on all around that time that makes this doubtful, but I'm gonna give it some serious thought! I never played a tourney and honestly, may face to face games were never quite "real" either so this could be quite an experience. An 11 or 12 hour drive is a bit rough but I have no plans that weekend, the housing is cheap enough and while away I have no problem with cheap beer and pizza. The cost isn't going to break me....

I would love to see you. I will even buy you a real meal.

You will have a great time and wonder why you haven't done it before.

By the way, I looked at my results from my last world dip con. Steve and I played together in one game and we tied in that game (I remember the game pretty well--I was Italy and I should have stabbed Austria and I did not and we would up conceding to him).

Dude, that is awesome! It will be great to see you! If we can arrange it, I'll take you and Tom both out for a drink.

I know Steve's name, mine is Tom Reinecker
Freeman is....?

It's gonna be awful
Freeman: "Hi Tom, I'm Bob Smith"
Tom: "Huh?"

I should be able to pick him out
He's a liberal so I look for the hippy
oh but wait, he's a lawyer, make that a shifty looking hippy!?

It's Freeman.

He's not shifty looking at all. He looks too smart to be your typical LA-ish attorney.

Exactly, here's what's in my mind, see if you follow the "logic"

La(ish) Lawer, so I think of LA Law
But he's liberal so I'm thinking of Alan Rachins (LA Law lawyer) but in his later hippy role on Dharma and Greg
....FREEMAN!

Yep, it's just Freeman...Named after my grandfather Freeman who got that name for reasons that have been lost...I've heard that name is a little less rare in the northeast and my dad is from Amesbury, MA.
Just look for the good-looking guy in glasses, Tom....
I am a little touched that Steve is being so nice...I bet that he has not used liberal and smart in the same sentence before (maybe smart-ass liberal!)..of course he just said I looked smart  ...I have been in trial all day and I don't feel that smart right now...
Seems like there a lot of Redscapers who don't live too far from North Carolina...You know it isn't often that you can be named the best diplomacy player in the world...
I'll have to say this about my other world dip con: (1) the skill level was pretty darn high, it was really high quality gaming, (2) and less positively, I hated the 4 player draws that some players liked to arrange. What is the point in playing if you're going to do that?
