Threw one of these back with the kids tonight, nice wallop of flavor, everybody really enjoyed it. It was a step up from the one bbauska and I tried. If you've not had one yet it's worth a try, should be widely available.

MMMMM Jamaican Ginger Beer. The spicier the better. Put some dark rum (not spiced rum!) in it to make a "Dark and Stormy".

You can get alcoholic Ginger Beers, but I find some are insipid (such as Crabbie's offerings) and taste more like Ginger Ale. Others are more beery, and the malt flavours don't always work so well with the ginger (such as Robinsons' Great British Ginger Beer). However, Fentimans - who also make one of the best normal (non-alcoholic) ginger beers available have a decent boozy choice as well.

Ginger Ale sucks, by the way. It's made for old ladies and Canadians to water down their whisky

Now that sounds interesting...Ginger Beer!? I never had it but would assume it to have a nice spice flavor to it? Gotta try this one this weekend!
It reminds me of the Angry Orchard hard cider I tried a few weeks back. Most hard cider is mehhh, not bad, not good and the same was true for those I had but for one, I tried three varieties of Angry Orchard...
Crisp and Ginger were fair at best
Cinnfulapple (cinnamon flavor) was actually "good" not great mind you but I would try this one again and maybe someone else with a different palate might actually like this one more!?

Yes, a very nice warm spicey taste, which is quite refreshing and yet usually sweet - like a soda it is usually fizzy and full of sugar. Can be augmented with a little lime

In the back I have a 'Ginger beer plant', which is a yeast-culture that you add warm water and and ginger to to brew your own. Only problem is that once you've done it, you end up with more ginger beer plant than you started with..

Yeehaa - Nugget Nectar is in! Two sixes parked in my beer fridge.

Also purchased the following heavy-duty beers (since winter obviously refuses to go away):

North Coast's Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout. I had one last night - really enjoyed the deep flavors and kind of winey alcohol kick at the end (9% abv). This one got even better as it warmed up.

Orkney's Skull Splitter. This is a Scotch ale (a.k.a. wee heavy) direct from Scotland, an unusual purchase for me. I've only had one of the style before and liked it. I'm trying to branch out a bit to European beers but damn, those Belgians are so expensive! This one was pricey ($13 for 4) but still cheaper than what the Trappiste's put out. Review forthcoming.

Enjoying a Murphy's Irish Stout on St. Patrick's Day. Malty, sweet, & very drinkable. Would choose this over any green-tinted crap!

To be honest I always preferred Murphy's to the Guinness, but the big Dublin boy is just everywhere.

A nice drop is the Murphy's Red, if you can get it.

Craft beer sales jumped 20 percent last year and now make up nearly 8 percent of all beer sales in America.

We're seeing a similar phenomenon over here. Obviously the idea of small independent breweries making interesting ales is nothing new in Britain, but the volume of sales has really kicked off in recent years. In my city the pub trade had been in steep decline a few years back but recently we've seen a boom in small independent companies taking on dead boozers, tarting them up a bit and turning them into quality places to go drinking real ales. You used to have to walk a long way to find a decent pub but they're springing up all over the place nowadays, and it's all driven by the boom in real ale consumption. Of course, a lot of pubs are still going to the wall, but these tend to be the crappy ones that haven't moved with the times.

Anchor Steam, the original craft beer. I forgot how good it is - glad I picked up six on sale.
