The start grid is set after quite a bit of dice rolling.

P2 was up for grabs between Rae and Brandt, with Rae grabbing the spot.

P5 had Brown, Polcen, Kennington and Schulz vying for it. The results came out in that order.

P11 was contested by Haskell and Coyle, with Haskell getting the inside of the final row.

Next deadline: turn 1 due Friday, Sep 13 at 4pm EDT/8pm UTC

Good luck to all! Gentlemen, start your engines!

The crowd stands as one as the lights flick on. Then, after what seems to be minutes, they all go out and 12 machines roar to life!

10 drivers pushed start speed, all passing their rolls.

Turn 1 summary:
Pellegrino throws one of his big 3-skill chips to the start and comes out with the clean lead. Rae drops to the inside of turn 1 at 40mph. Brandt's machine grants him 80mph and with that comes P2. Swaine also gets 80 from his machine, keeping to the outside to shake off any slip attempt next turn.

Brown get 80 and must take the middle lane of turn 1. He's the victim of Swaine's finishing position. Polcen at 40 takes the opportunity to grab the inside. Kennington does not tax his engine. He also keeps outside, pulling even with Polcen. Schulz is the other driver that did not push, starting for the inside at 20.

Rando's 40 start grabs him P7 inside the light blue car. Kellison does 40 and makes it 3-wide. Coyle pushes to 80 but the track is blocked. With no mention of a forced pass or late brake he drops back to 40 spending two wear. Haskell's 40 is ideal but he does drop the spot to Coyle.

3-wide into the first corner.

Turn 2 summary:
Pellegrino slams the gas down to reach 140 and starts the line into turn 2. Swaine also hits the gas hard and dives to the inside for the lead. Brandt gets a slip from Pellegrino bringing him to the outside of the leaders. Brown winds up to 140 and starts the line 2 car lengths behind Pellegrino.

Rae maxes his acceleration to 100 and gets a slip from Brandt. He keeps on the inside. Kennington pushes to 160 and pulls even with Rae. Polcen also rolls the dice but his slow start drops him to P7.

Rando, Schulz and Kellison maintain formation out of turn 1 all at 100. Coyle and Haskell both anticipate that group and do 100 as well to keep time.

The front of the pack begins to stretch out through corner 2.

Turn 3 summary:
Swaine slams on the brakes to get down to 80 (naked 8), dropping one wear around the inner 60 space and keeping to the middle. Pellegrino scrubs off two wear on the racing line at 120 and regains the lead. Brandt rounds the 80s at 100 for one wear and tucks in behind the red machine. Brown saves rubber by slowing to 80 on the racing line.

Rae squeals around the inner 60 at 100 shedding two wear and moving up to P4. Kennington duplicates Rae's move, also spending two wear and passing the yellow car. Polcen dives into the corner at 120 leaving two wear on the racing line. Rando gets the initiative on his rowmates at 160 approaching the corner on the inside.

Schulz feathers his accelerator to 140 and grabs Rando's wing. Kellison also does 140 and starts the racing line into the corner. Coyle hits his top speed of 160 and slots in between Schulz and Kellison. Haskelll wanted 160 also but has to drop some rubber to get down to 140 and grabs the line behind the 3-wide.

17 wear points spent this turn, including one for NPR and one for late brake failure.

(Note: Although it does not affect anyone for next turn, remember a car can accelerate in a corner only if it does not increase the penalty in the next space only.)

Turn 4 summary:
Pellegrino flies through the 100s at 140 shedding two wear and clearing the corner. Swaine takes a more conservative line through the 120s at 140 for one wear. Brandt follows the leader at 140 paying the same two wear and picking up P2 with the slip from Swaine. Rae also hits the corner at 140 but conserves his wear on the outside.

Kennington is distracted by his crew chief singing on the radio (NPR) driving into the corner at 140. He's forced to the 120s to avoid Rae at a cost of one wear for the corner and one for the distraction. Brown follows the dark blue machine into the 120s at 140 scrubbing off one wear. Polcen finishes corner 2 on the line for already paid wear and sets up on the inside for the corner 3 & 4 combination. Rando careens around the inside of corner 2 at 100 leaving two wear behind and tucking in behind Polcen.

Coyle plots 120 to get the initiative on the three wide then brakes to 100 with 1 skill. When the brake and tire smoke clears there is a definite thud as the car rounds the inside 60 at 100. Total damage: two wear for the corner, one wear for the brakes. Schulz also holds on tight around the inside at 100 knocking off two wear and keeping even with Coyle. Kellison slows to 80 around the racing line for free. Haskell had designs on the racing line but, at 100, he dives to the inside to avoid the silver machine, paying two wear for the last minute move.

The corner 3/4 combination stretches out the front of the field and compacts the rest.

Turn 5 summary:

Pellegrino flies down the short straightaway at 140 and starts the corner 5 line. Brandt keeps pace and tucks in behind the leader. Swaine continues the 120s, wear already paid. Kennington does the same to keep the gap at two car lengths.

Rae slows to 100 and shifts to the middle lane for free. Brown finishes the 120s at 140 for already paid wear and starts for the inside. Polcen does 140, committed to the 100s for two wear but he has to hold the outside lane to avoid Rae. Rando hits the 120s at 120. The slip from Polcen gets him to the end of the corner but he has to do so on the inside dropping two wear.

Coyle runs hard into the 140s at 160 shedding one wear, grabbing Rando's wing. Schulz keeps the pack tight at 140 scrubbing off two wear in the 100s. Haskell loses the group at 140 around the outside for free. Kellison cruises the corner in the orange racecar's tire tracks also for free.

The mid-pack tightens up into corner 5

Turn 6 summary:
Pellegrino uses all his brakes getting to 100 around the corner 5 racing line. Brandt also does 100 shedding one wear around the inner 80 and taking the lead. Swaine runs into the corner on the line for free at 100. Kennington takes up position on the line behind the red car.

Brown puts the short straightaway behind him at 140 moving into P4 on the inside. Rando is first out of corner 4 at 160 threading the needle between Brown and Kennington. Rae cautiously plots 140 looking for a slip but there's no room for the bonus. He tucks in behind Brown. Finally Polcen exits at 140 and starts the racing line behind the dark blue machine.

Schulz maintains 140 through the 100, wear already paid, and grabs Polcen's wing. Coyle hits the brakes hard to get down to 100, finishing the 100s for free and dropping inside. Haskell and Kellison both follow the green car's path through the 100s for free.

Swaine finishes the corner 5 racing line at speed and starts the next. Brown is the first of the 3-wide to hit the corner, doing so at 100 for one wear on the inside.

Kennington matches Brown's 100 move around the racing line, knocking off one wear. Rando jams the brake pedal hard (modified 2) to take the inner lane at 80. Rae is the big mover this turn picking up three positions by leaving two wear on the inner 80 at 120 then shooting around Kennington and splitting Brown and Swaine. Polcen slows to 100 around the racing line for free.

Schulz also slows to 100 and follows the black machine around the racing line. Coyle runs hard into corner 5 at 140 on the line burning off two wear and clearing the corner. 10 of 12 changed positions this turn

Turn 8 summary:
Pellegrino approaches corner 8 on the racing line. Brandt hits his top speed and dives to the inside to retake the lead for a moment. Rae is first into corner 6 at 100 dropping two wear on the inside. He's followed by Swaine who takes the racing line at 80 for free.

Baker then dives to the inside at 60. Rando has the inside advantage at 80 and sheds one wear on the inside of the corner to make it three wide. Kennington holds the line at 80 for free. Polcen looked for the line at 100 but with the dark blue car in his way decides to slow to 80. A tell-tale puff of smoke from the front rotors says something is not right as he drops to the inside for one wear.

Schulz slows to 80 and starts the corner 6 racing line. Coyle (NPR 1>1 wear) plots 100 and with Schulz on the racing line he drops to the curb picking up P9 in the process. Kellison runs the corner 5 inner 80 at 100 scrubbing off one wear and sliding out to the line behind Schulz. Haskell rides the corner 5 line for free at 100 and tucks in behind the silver machine.

(He will ultimately drop from P4 to P8 this turn) Polcen exits corner 6 at 140 and looks for the line but Brown is in the way. He moves inside of the yellow machine. A new car joins the lead see-saw.

Turn 10 summary:
Pellegrino maxes at 140 keeping in the middle lane. Brandt uses his bigger engine to get to 160 and retake the lead on the inside. Rae hits high gear and full throttle and his engine manages to exceed it's expected maximum, giving him 180mph and P2 on the inside. Swaine leaves two wear points on the inside 80 at 120 and chooses the middle for the first half of the back stretch.

Rando runs the corner 8 racing line at speed and moves to the inside. Polcen follows Swaine around the inside at 100 shedding one wear but keeping up with him thanks to the bonus. Kennington slows slightly to 100 taking the outside lane for free and cutting Brown a break as he moves to the middle lane. Brown takes the, now available, racing line at 100 for free and looks for a slip opportunity. With none available he finishes in front of the dark blue machine.

Coyle grabs a higher gear than he might have wanted and finds himself rocketing into corner 8 at 140, able to hold the line as his tires squeal off two wear (and two more for the NPR). Schulz is first of the back three to reach corner 8, starting the line. Kellison decides to move to the inside with the line blocked. Haskell is able to max his acceleration to 140 and tuck in behind Schulz on the line.

A fairly quiet turn with only two passes; Coyle picking up two spots and Schulz one.

Turn 11 summary:
Brandt approaches corner 11 on the inside at 140. Rae get the bonus space to pull even with the leader. Pellegrino taps the brakes to 120 and remains on the outside. Swaine airs out his big engine at 180 knowing it will allow the black car to keep up.

Polcen wisely plots 140 and uses the double slip to stay right behind Swaine. Rando hits 160 and hugs the inside. Brown maxes at 160 and chooses the middle lane to keep his options open. Kennington also does 160 and gets a slip, popping to the outside of the yellow machine.

Coyle hits his engine hard and it responds, following up his blast into the corner with a 180mph romp down the straightaway and into P7. Schulz sticks to the racing line at 100 for free then moves to the inside. Kellison slows to 80 around the inside of the corner and keeps even with Schulz. Haskell drops one wear on the line at 100 to make it three wide as the back three prepare to attack the long straight.

Corner 11 collects a lot of rubber as wear points continue to dwindle.

Turn 12 summary:
Brandt and Rae both run corner 11 on the inside at 80 for two wear each. Brandt is able to start the inside lane in corner 13 forcing Rae to the middle. Pellegrino takes the line at 80 shedding one wear and losing a car length to the leaders. Swaine steps hard on the brakes and they hold as he slides into the corner on the racing line at 100 dropping two wear.

Polcen maxes his damaged brakes down to 100 and follows Swaine into corner 11, costing him two wear. Rando slows to 120 and is poised to run the inside of corner 11. Brown plots 160 then uses two skill to get down to 140, starting the line before the corner. Kennington holds steady at 160 shifting to the inside and slotting himself between Brown and Rando.

Coyle fixates on the crowd instead of his driving (NPRx3) A third NPR in the same lap and the race officials notify the team that he must exit the course (DQ). Haskell lets his big engine loose with a 180 move and a shift to the middle lane halfway down the straight. Schulz hits high gear at 160 and has a shorter path than Haskell which keeps them side-by-side. Kellison uses all his acceleration to get to 140 but can't keep the draft.
