In the beginning, the earth was without form and void, and fantasy pioneers used newspaper box scores to run their leagues. Then the internet was born, and Yahoo!, ESPN, and CBS emerged as fantasy baseball platforms. Then came Fantrax.

See ESPN doesn't care about fantasy baseball. They host it because they have to, but it's little more than a nuisance to them. Fantasy football is where their bread is buttered, and even that is only a small piece of their media empire. ESPN is fine for your standard workplace redraft league for casual fans, but for a 16 team contract dynasty? We have a better alternative.

Fantrax is different. It's only a fantasy sports site, and baseball is actually one of their foremost sports. In other words, they give a shit.

Fantrax Pros

-Salaries AND contracts visible on the roster page. No more toggling back and forth between a google doc and your team's page.
-Massive player universe. No more placing placeholders.
-Player spot in the lineup each day visible on the roster page.
-Tons of customization. Plus they even update their options based on customer feedback. That's right, they have actual customer service!

Fantrax Cons

-We might have to pay for premium (about $5/owner per season)
-No app, but a 100% functional mobile site
-Might take a tiny bit of getting used to...though ESPN's new design looks remarkably similar to Fantrax's

Extremely disappointed in the 'new' ESPN fantasy pages. I'll send out a league email to generate discussion then run a vote shortly afterwards.

Fantrax

Pros
Customize team page.
Customer service is top notch.

Cons
A few glitchy tech issues.

Do they have a free trial period that we could have setup and compare to what we have now? I would be fine with helping out to get things set up and then move over even this season. We're early on. If we're all on board, why wait? This new ESPN interface is a struggle.

I'm pretty sure you can set up a league anytime.

Don't jump the gun, Brad. We don't even know if the league wants to move in 2020, much less mid-season.

I agree with Mike about the new pages. The refresh rate is horrid, the look is disappointing, and the setup is not intuitive at all. Other than that, I don't see much value in it.

Willing to pay extra...

Since we are moving to Fantrax next season, please tell me if this makes sense for contract codes (especially those with FT experience):

NC = No contract
F1 = First year of 1 year contract
F2 = First year of 2 year contract
F3 = First year of 3 year contract
S2 = Second year of 2 year contract
S3 = Second year of 3 year contract
T3 = Third year of 3 year contract
R = Rookie contract

*Note that the code has a six character limit.

I could also differentiate between auction players and FA's (and remove NC):

A = Purchased at auction
FA = Free agent acquisition

What happens when you get to fourth contract?

What about something like C11, C12, C13, C21, C22, C23, C31, R1, R2, R3... cause we have multiples of those as well

As mentioned in chat, I don't see the purpose of designating contract # unless we change system. If so, then yes, we would need to do so.

Duh... why change anything? I can use what we use in our spreadsheet:

1/1
1/2
1/3
2/2
2/3
3/3

Would that be an easier transition?
