City States - You performs acts of service, rather than buy favor. Gaining a great merchant will give you an envoy, and that can be attached to that City State, giving you better bonuses.

Civics - You follow a path, and as this path develops, you get traits that can be played for bonuses and swapped for different bonuses as the need arises. Also, the civics and science development times can be reduced by performing certain tasks. Example; the time for Iron working could be 12 turns, but can be reduced to 6 turns if you have an Iron Mine.

Interaction with foreign nations - a bit cartoonish, but the playability is nice. The have an agenda that will be defended to the utmost. If you bully a City State, China will be quite irritated. Betray an ally, and Scythia will almost certainly attack.

Battle - Same as Civ 5, but the attacking of a city needs to remove the defenses first before doing much damage to the inside units or buildings.

Religion. Same as Civ 4 basically.

Interface - Great! The voice overs are well done, and add a richness to the game. It takes a hefty machine to run this. It is enjoyable so far.

Well, I have an eight-core processor and a shitload of memory. I remember when I bought civ V originally I didn't mean the "recommended" requirements, and upgraded my system---in the extreme. At the time, money wasn't as much of a concern as it is today so I went overboard, all to play Civ V properly. (Not really into any other video games tho!)

you said religion is "same as Civ 4"....did you mean "same as Civ 5"? Because I thought they were kinda shitty in Civ 4 (the religious aspect wasn't well-done).

Sixty dollars...I think I'll wait to see if I get it as a Christmas present. (Mentioned the game to my mother and said "yeah...<coughchristmascough>..." So we'll see. For now I'm going to wait for the price to come down. When I bought Civ V, I had a gift card so I paid $30 instead of $50. That was the original ed. without Brave New World or Gods and Kings.

Have you gotten to the atomic age yet?

Yes, Civ 5 for religion. I have all the Civs 1-6, Colonization (the old and new), and Civ Rome. I think they all begin to run together.

Atomic Age? Not yet. I have played 3 games, and lost in the Rennessaince, the industrial, and am in the industrial now. In this one, I have been attacked by Scythia (they lost two cities), and Kongo (they lost 2 cities). Now Egypt is chirpin' at me...

I have the habit of taking the cities as my own. I never sack them.

That's what I meant: capturing a city. Not burning it to the ground.

You have to take out the city defenses first. Use siege weapons for maximum effect. I have not seen a negative effect after conquering a city. Is that your question?
