a new favorite (my kids are adults) is Cards Against Humanity
Pretty much Apples to Apples only "naughty" (and the naughtier the better!)

But the kids best be adults (or late teens, even then you can be uncomfortable) the cards can get pretty dirty!

I received Dixit for Father's Day. Great family game with incredibly simple rules. This one will be travelling with us for awhile...

My boys have been enjoying "The Adventurers". It is a Mayan temple adventure that has traps and dangers you must avoid while gathering treasure. It even has a rolling boulder (Indiana Jones!). My twelve year old has fallen down the waterfall and died twice! Ages on the box is 14+ but my 7 year old girl enjoys it as well.

I do love this one. The artwork on the cards is amazing, and there are plenty of extra decks to pick up.

Plus, what's not to love about the scoring markers (rabbits)?

If you like Dominion, you'll love Trains. My daughter and I have played several times and like the rail-building aspect. It's still a deck-builder but better. FYI, you can get it online at Target for under $30 and free shipping.

We also added Machi Koro to our collection. Both of my daughters enjoy this one. We played the expansion set at a game meet-up at the local library. Not a great game but pretty good. It gets a thumbs up for price and accessibility.

Here's a great filler game we've played 3 times so far: King of Tokyo.

It plays in about 1/2 an hour, short enough for the younger ones. There's something satisfying about rolling the big heavy dice and clobbering your opponents into submission. I recommend for all ages - my 7-year old won the inaugural contest!

We're fans of King of Tokyo too. I also recommend the expansion for King of Tokyo, I think, because it creates a slight differentiation between the creatures. And Panda-kai is cool!

I highly recommend Tichu, a Chinese card game. Although you can play with 3, 5, or 6, it really only works with 4. My 11 year old can play, but it would be very tough for anyone who is younger than that. There are layers of understanding of the game so you keep learning even if you played for awhile, You can also play buzzed if that is your inclination.

We've been playing Spy Alley over the holidays. Both my 12 and 14 year olds are into it. I like it even more than they do. Somehow it's a good combination of Clue, Poker, and Monopoly. There's a good mix of skill and luck. It's relatively simple so even an 8 year old can play.

I'm a huge fan of Tichu, but can't get my family to play. It remains a once in a while game when I'm with buddies from Michigan.

Instead we play games like Trains, which we got based upon Terp's recommendation. Such a rip off of Dominion, it seems wrong, but it's different enough from Dominion to make it worth it.
