The 15th New York National Guard regiment was federalized 100 years ago. It became known as the Harlem Hellfighters. The Hellfighters wore US uniforms, but they were assigned to French command. They used French weapons and were incorporated into a French division. In fact, the only US troops assigned to foreign command were black regiments. I wonder why?
